UES Interventional Pain – FAQs

Still wondering about something? Text or call us at (917) 694-2212 or email [email protected].

1. What’s the difference between a pain management epidural and a labor epidural?

  • A pain management epidural is designed to treat back pain, sciatica, herniated discs, and nerve inflammation. It delivers
medication to the spine to calm down irritated nerves.
  • A labor & delivery (L&D) epidural is used during childbirth to numb pain while keeping the patient awake. It’s more about
    anesthesia than long-term pain relief.

Same name, totally different goals!

2. Does an epidural hurt?

Not as much as you think! You’ll feel a quick pinch when we numb the area, and then just some pressure—not sharp pain. Most patients say,”That was way easier than I expected!

And if you’re nervous, we can use sedation to keep things extra comfortable.

3. Do I need sedation for pain injections?

Not necessarily. Most spine and orthopedic injections are done with just local anesthesia, and patients handle it like a champ.

BUT… if you’re anxious or just don’t want to feel anything, we offer twilight sedation (like a nap) so you can stay completely relaxed. Your choice!

4. How long does an epidural last?

  • Some people feel better instantly—others take a few days.
  • Relief can last weeks to months (every person is different).
  • If pain comes back, we may do a series of injections to keep it under control.

And if injections don’t cut it, we also offer minimally invasive spine and orthopedic procedures for long-term relief!

5. Any rules after getting an epidural?

Yup, a few simple ones:

  • No heavy lifting or intense workouts for 24 hours
  • No swimming or baths for 24 hours
  • If you had sedation, don’t drive the same day (Uber or a friend is your best bet!)
  • Listen to your body—if something feels off, give us a call!

6. Will the doctor look at my MRI before treatment?

Absolutely! We take MRIs, CT scans, and X-rays seriously because we don’t just guess—we diagnose.

If you have recent imaging, bring it in! If not, no worries—we can order the right tests to get the full picture.

7. Can you treat numbness and tingling?

Yes! Those weird, tingly, “pins and needles” feelings usually come from nerve compression, herniated discs, or orthopedic issues. We have a whole toolbox of treatments to wake up those nerves and get them working right again!

Treatment options:

  • Epidural steroid injections (for irritated spinal nerves)
  • Nerve blocks (to stop pain signals)
  • Minimally invasive spine procedures (when injections aren’t enough)
  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy (for nerve healing & regeneration)

8. Are there risks with epidural injections?

Like any procedure, there are potential (but rare) side effects, including:

  • Temporary numbness or weakness (totally normal!)
  • Soreness at the injection site (minor and goes away fast)
  • Mild headache (super rare, but treatable)
  • Infection or bleeding (VERY rare, and we take precautions to prevent it)

Most people walk out feeling way better than they walked in!

9. How do I know if I need a spine or orthopedic pain specialist?

If you’ve been living with pain for weeks, months, or years, it’s time to stop suffering! If your pain isn’t improving with rest or physical therapy, a spine and orthopedic pain specialist near you can offer next-level treatments that actually work.

10. Can I work after getting a pain injection?

If you have a desk job, you’ll be fine to go back the next day.

If your job is physically demanding, you might want to take a day off. And if you had sedation, take the day to relax.

11. Do you offer treatments besides injections?

Absolutely! While injections are super effective, they’re just one part of the plan. We also offer:

  • Physical therapy referrals (movement = healing!)
  • Bracing & supportive devices (less strain = less pain)
  • PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy (regenerative medicine to repair damaged tissue)
  • Minimally invasive spine & orthopedic surgeries (for lasting relief)

We’re all about avoiding open surgery and getting you back to life ASAP!

12. What pain conditions do you treat?

If it hurts, we probably treat it!

  • Back & Neck Pain (herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica)
  • Joint Pain (knee, hip, shoulder, arthritis)
  • Nerve Pain (neuropathy, pinched nerves, radiculopathy)
  • Sports Injuries & Orthopedic Pain (tendonitis, ligament sprains, overuse injuries)

Need urgent or immediate care for pain relief near you? We’ve got you covered.

13. Do you accept insurance?

Yes! We take many major insurance plans. If you’re unsure about coverage, text or call us at (917) 694-2212, and we’ll verify it for you!.

14. How do I book an appointment?
