Manhattan Experts with Genicular Nerve Blocks, performed by Matthew Spiegel, MD
Overview:
The genicular nerves are a group of nerves located near the knee that provide sensation to the knee joint and surrounding area. When these nerves become irritated or inflamed, they can cause chronic knee pain. Genicular nerve blocks involve injecting a local anesthetic plus steroid medication near the genicular nerves to temporarily interrupt the transmission of pain signals. If the genicular nerve block provides relief, but feels short-lived, you may be a candidate for a genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation procedure.
