Overview:

Vertebral compression fractures occur when the normal vertebral body of the spine is fractured and compressed to a smaller size. It is most commonly caused by injuries or trauma, such as falls, particularly in the elderly with osteoporosis (less dense bones). People with vertebral compression fractures report severe pain at the affected area, with newly limited spinal mobility. Some people also appreciate a loss of height.
