Expert Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) Treatment in Manhattan, Provided by Matthew Spiegel, MD
Overview:
Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) occurs when there is a gradual deterioration of the disc that sits between the vertebrae of the spine. Degenerative Disc Disease is a natural part of aging and manifests most often in people over the age of 40. The condition can appear anywhere along the spinal column but is more common in the lumbar (lower back) and cervical (neck) regions. The effects of degenerative disc disease can be severe, typically resulting in localized pain but may cause radiculopathy if there is nerve root or spinal cord compression or irritation. Degenerative Disc Disease is classically worse with bending, coughing or straining.
