Manhattan Experts with Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD), performed by Matthew Spiegel, MD

Overview:

Minimally invasive lumbar decompression (or “MILD”) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to alleviate pain and symptoms associated with neurogenic claudication and spinal stenosis. Unlike traditional open surgery, the MILD approach involves making tiny incisions and using specialized instruments to access the affected area of the lumbar spine. By removing or trimming overgrown bone or tissue, surgeons can create more space for the spinal cord, reducing pressure and relieving pain. The MILD procedure typically results in shorter recovery times, less postoperative discomfort, and reduced scarring, compared to the traditional open surgery.
