Manhattan Experts with Transversus Abdominal Plane Blocks, performed by Matthew Spiegel, MD
Overview:
A Transversus Abdominal Plane (TAP) block is a medical procedure used to provide pain relief to the abdominal wall. The TAP block is most commonly used to treat postoperative pain. TAP blocks include injecting a local anesthetic into the transversus abdominis plane, which is a layer found between the internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles, where the nerves live. Anesthetizing these nerves decreases pain sensation along the abdominal wall.
