Manhattan Experts with Spinal Cord Stimulation, performed by Matthew Spiegel, MD
Overview:
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) involves implanting a device that sends low-voltage electrical impulses to the spinal cord. The system consists of small electrodes attached to the spinal cord that are linked to a generator inserted beneath the skin. The device’s electrical impulses help stop pain signals from reaching the brain, which decreases chronic pain caused by diseases such as failed back surgery syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, radicular low back and neck pain, and neuropathic pain. With a spinal cord stimulator device, patients are afforded the opportunity to test out the therapy first, before moving forward with a more permanent implantation.
