Manhattan Experts with Suprascapular Nerve Blocks, performed by Matthew Spiegel, MD
Overview:
The suprascapular nerve is responsible for providing sensation to the shoulder joint and the surrounding muscles. A suprascapular nerve block is the injection of local anesthetic towards the nerve and is used in the case of shoulder pain which can be due to conditions such as rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), or shoulder impingement syndrome. A suprascapular nerve block may also be performed to help diagnose the source of shoulder pain. If the injection alleviates pain, it confirms that the pain is covered by the territory of the suprascapular nerve.
